Description

My latest custom My Little Pony :)

She was made from one of the new ponies, named Rainbow Dash (for those who don't keep up with MLP's, Rainbow Dash was blue, with rainbow hair - different from what you see here - with a rainbow and clouds symbol on her rump). I wanted to make a Merry-Go-Round pony and I had just boughten some good 3D puffy paints for it.

Originally, I wanted to dye the pony black, as you see here, but I wanted to keep the original rainbow hair. After a few experiments, I couldn't figure out how to dye the head without getting the hair also dyed too, so unfortunately, I had to snip it off because I didn't know how to save the hair (taking out G3 pony hair is much more difficult from ponies from the 1980's). However, I did save the original tail!

After I dyed the pony (the pearl effect from the original colour of the pony showed thru on the dye!), I gave it new hair. I had some "hair donor" ponies (these are custom bait ponies that have poorly marked up bodies, but beautiful silky hair!). I used two Rainbow ponies to make up the one head of hair for this one. Originally, in a pony's head, there is a "main knot" at the base of the neck. Once you get rid of that main knot, then the rest of the hair comes out easily. But, in the case of the Rainbow Ponies, there's a main knot for each colour! It literally took all day to take the hair out, separate it, tie knots in the middle and arrange them by colour. I didn't put the colours in the original formation (which was pink, yellow, green and blue). Instead, I put them in the order you see here.

I then started painting the "saddle" on the back. I first painted the purple saddle and after it was dry, I put a layer of sparkly clear paint on it. Then I put a sealer on it.

After that, I put the puffy blue flowers on there, and how I got them to look so nicely, was that I would put 5 blobs, all in a circle. Using a pointy toothpick, I would put it in the middle of one blob and then "drag" the wet 3D paint towards the middle, and then repeat that for 5 blobs in the circle. I did all the flowers like that, and I waited a day for it to dry before adding the yellow centres to the flowers.

The hearts were pretty simular: I placed two blobs of the pink 3D puffy paint right next to each other and used a pointy toothpick to join the two blobs together (of the top of the heart), and then "dragged" the paint down to form the bottom of the heart. The heart decal on the hoof was also done in the puffy paint.

After the yellow and pink paint were dry, I put the green trimming on and let the paint dry. Afterwards, I then put a coat of sealer on all of the design. After the body was done, I tied the hair up on the head and did the design on the neck of the pony.

And voila! This is the end result :) I'm not planning on selling this pony either...I worked hard on it, but I like it too much to want to part with it ;)
