Tiny Painting Suggestions?

Journal Entry: Fri May 2, 2008, 2:35 PM

So I have two more tiny canvases left: another 2x2" and the other is 3x3", and I'm looking to see if I can get some ideas as to what I can paint on them :) I'm mostly looking for species that are popular and that everyone likes :) Since I've already done a fox and a tiger, please don't suggest those ones ;) I'd like to do different ones from what I've done already ;)

Just remember, I can't really fit too much on these canvases...I think that at the very most, I can do a VERY bare minimum background, or just a gradient-type background like how I did with the fox and tiger.

Any suggestions? :)

An Art Question About Canvas

For the fun of it (and sheer SQUEE!!! factor) I bought some TINY canvases today at the art store, and they even come in frames! When I say tiny...I mean these things are 2x2", 2x3" and 3x3"...adorable!

I want to see if I can make little paintings and being new to gouache, I wanted to see if experienced artists out there could give me some advice...how's gouache on canvas? Recommend it or not? If not, what kind of medium would be good? And should I use a sealant on the finished painting, like a spray-on sealant?

Would love to hear your suggestions :)

Hey guys! Making a plug here for my good friend Sketch Dalmation :) He's having an emergency fund for Anthrocon where he's accepting $5 sketches! And he has 100 slots open!

I've known Sketch for a few years now, and he's an awesome artist! :) I would LOVE to see him appear at Anthrocon again, and I love his company, especially while at the U&G party :) Please help him out?

He's also accepting other commissions as well, such as conbadges, bottle cap commissions and regular colour commissions.

You can read more about it here in his FA journal (I don't believe he's got a LiveJournal account):

Or you can visit his journal here on DA: :devsketchdalmation:

Please pass this along if you feel the need to :)

Ack! :iconfarellemoon: tagged me! Guess I better do this! ;)

The rules are:

1. Post these rules
2. Each person tagged must post 8 random facts about themselves
3. Tags should write a journal/ blog of these facts
4. At the end of the post 8 more persons are tagged and named
5. Go to their page and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

I've done this one so many times...well, chances are, I might repeat some of the older ones.

1. I don't know how to ride a bicycle. Heaven knows I've tried in the past, but recently, I just have any interest in wanting to learn. I'd rather just get an adult tricycle.

2. Among things that I collect, are: squished pennies, plushies, unicorns, dolphins and black panthers. If there were more collectables with Gryphons, I'd be collecting them as well.

3. I was one year younger than everyone in my class when I was in school. This was because I saw my brother when he was in school, and at the tender age of 3, I bugged and begged my parents to get me into school as well. So they found a school where they allowed me to be a year younger then everyone else in the class. When I graduated from Grade 12, I was the youngest at 17. And I was 18 when I graduated from 13.

4. Speaking of which, yes, our school had Grade 13 :) Ontario was the last province to have Grade 13 in High school, and even then, it was getting rare for high schools to have that grade. For "smart kids", it was actually called OAC (Ontario Acedemic Credit) and it prepared them for university. For kids like me, it was just a year more of high school. I used it to complete my music credits and to do Co-Op at another high school.

5. I'm a certified Florist. And no, it has nothing to do with floors, it's flower arranging; you have absolutely NO idea how many people have asked me what I would recommend for a hard-wood floor in the house because they thought "florist" had something to do with floors! :XD: The only reason why I took the course in college is because my parents wanted me to go to college, but not too many things really interested me...Florist seemed the like "best" choice, and it was only for one year and it was the cheapest course. Not that I do that as a living now, anyways. I couldn't get hired all that much back in Ottawa cuz I wasn't billingual. I suppose if I really wanted to do it now, I could...but I have no interest in it. At least I can say I still remember how to make pretty bows! :XD:

6. Even though I grew up in the 80's, when I was a kid, I didn't like the music back then. I much prefered listening to the 50's and 60's! I used to get teased a lot because of it. Then again, my parents didn't mind! :XD: I still very much like that era of Rock n' Roll, and it's only just recently in the last few years, I'm getting re-aquainted with the 80's.

7. The first musical instrument I learned to play was my dad's portable wind organ; I was 7 years old. It was...I guess from the 1960's? I would have it on my lap, and I would play the tune out with my right hand, and press the chord buttons with my left. To this day, I still can't play a keyboard with both hands, only with my right hand. I also didn't know how to read music till I got into high school, so I learned by listening to Christmas music that they played on the radio at the time. My dad found an old music book that had numbers instead of music notes (since the organ had numbers on the keys), and that's how I used to "read" music back then.

8. We don't have a microwave and we choose not to have one, despite many MANY people thinking it's weird that we don't want one and constantly suggest that we should buy one. Why should we? We LOVE to cook! And if we ever need something re-heated up, we've got a toaster oven. We're never in a hurry to get cooking done, so why have a microwave? Hot dogs taste better when they're boiled, steamed veggies are a sinch to make, and I can't stand chicken pot pies in the microwave...they're too soggy. The only thing I could honestly think I would use a microwave for is to make popcorn. And even then, I'd rather just get an air-popper. And, as much as I like cooking, I *do* like some things that come in packages (like Lipton Noodle Sidedishes)...but I hate it whenever I can't try anything new because it's "Microwave Only". GAH!!!

And...I tag NO ONE! Cuz I'm too lazy to go through my Watchlist! :XD: If you wanna do this and say I tagged you, then go for it :)
